Toronto Maple Leafs’ James van Riemsdyk has signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning announced Wednesday that the team has signed defenseman James van Rieringsdyk to a one year contract.

The deal is worth $900,000.

Van Riemssyk, 27, played two seasons with the Canucks, totaling 21 goals and 37 assists for 41 points in 124 games.

He also helped the team win the Stanley Cup with the 2012-13 team.

Van Riemsyk played for the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators before being traded to the Canucks in 2013.

He is one of several players on the Canucks roster who has played a significant role in the team’s success.

Vancouver also acquired forwards Jake Virtanen and Alex Burrows in the trade.

Van Rieringslyk was originally selected by Vancouver in the sixth round (144th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
